FOREWARD
In Your Hands" is presented as a guide for parents in understanding and helping their children. It is designed to aid MY BOOK HOUSE parents in the most intelligent use of the graded stories and handwork contained in the My BOOK HOUSE Plan. The direct correlation between the material and the needs and interest of the growing child is made clear.
The charts and Dr. Martin L. Reymert's "The Ladder of Years" are based on data obtained from observation, tests, and school courses of study. However, the standards set up for the average child at each level are not absolute requirements for any individual child; rather, they indicate the stages of development through which each child may be expected to grow at his own rate of speed.
In this edition certain charts which appeared on page 86 and following pages of the previous editions, relating to infants up to the age of 5 years, have been removed. Readers interested in detailed study of norms of mental growth should consult such authoritative publications as Gesell: "First Five Years of Life" Gesell & Ilg: "Infant and Child in the Culture of Today", etc.
In endeavoring to provide both the guidance information and the actual material to use each day with a child, it is our desire to help My BOOK HOUSE parents have a finer, happier relationship with their children.
