Three Mile an Hour God by Kosuke Koyama (Very Good, 1980, Pbk, 146 pgs, Oasis Books)

Three Mile an Hour God is a collection of short biblical reflections by Japanese theologian Kosuke Koyama (first published 1979), organized around the central idea of a "slow" God. 

Koyama's core metaphor is that Jesus, being fully human, walked at about three miles per hour — the ordinary pace of human walking — and that this is the pace of God's love. As he puts it: "Love has its speed.  It is a spiritual speed... It is the speed we walk and therefore the speed the love of God walks." Against a Western culture obsessed with technology, speed, and efficiency, he argues that God invites us "in the direction of depth rather than distance," and that the incarnation (God walking among us rather than ahead of us) reshapes how we understand time, love, and theology.
